Healthy People has provided the prevention agenda for the Nation since 1979. Healthy People 2010 is a set of health objectives for the Nation to achieve over the first decade of the new century. It can be used by many different people, States, communities, professional organizations, and others to help them develop programs to improve health. Healthy People 2010 builds on initiatives pursued over the past two decades. It is a statement of national opportunities and a tool that identifies the most significant preventable threats to health and focuses public and private sector efforts to address those threats. The Association of Schools of Public Health (ASPH) is the only national organization representing accredited member schools of public health. Established in 1953 to facilitate communication among the leadership of schools, the Association has gradually assumed a variety of functions. One such function is that ASPH works with various agencies of the Federal Government on projects aimed at strengthening public health education and the public health profession.
