Chapter 16: The Impact of Environment on Human Health

In this Chapter you learned about environmental health which refers to conditions that affect the health and well-being of humans. It is a part of the larger concept of public health. Within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is the National Center for Environmental Health (NCEH). The NCEH mission is to provide national leadership, through science and service, that promotes health and quality of life by preventing or controlling those diseases, birth defects, disabilities, or deaths that result from interactions between people and their environment.

Environmental Hazards and Health Effects
The Foodborne Diseases Active Surveillance Network (FoodNet) is the principal foodborne disease component of CDC's Emerging Infections Program. The project consists of active surveillance for foodborne diseases and related epidemiologic studies designed to help public health officials better understand the epidemiology of foodborne diseases in the United States.
