The National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) provides the most up-to-date national vital statistics available. Vital statistics are statistical summaries of vital records; records of major life events. One such event is deaths. Death rates are calculated by race and age, and in some issues, by cause. It is important that you as a student become knowledgeable about the specific health problems of each age group and race.
Visit the NCHS web site. Select "Death." Using the Index to Tables on 10 Leading Causes of Death by race, sex, and age, select adults and compare the death rates based on sex and race regarding the death rates of each. Write a summary comparing any differences or similarities you found. Explain in your own words why differences may exist.

The Division of Aging and Seniors is one of five Divisions of the Population Health Directorate, Health Promotion and Programs Branch of Health Canada.
