Unintentional injuries affect millions of Americans each year causing serious loss of health and income. While some accidents and injuries are due to unavoidable events such as natural disasters, the vast majority of unintentional injuries are due to behavioral, social, or economic conditions that are subject to change. Because of this, most unintentional injuries are preventable. Most accidents involve many factors and, in many cases, some aspect of the environment is involved such as wind, rain, or fog. Among all injuries and fatalities, avoidable accidents exceed all other causes of injuries. In many kinds of accidents alcohol is a contributing factor. It is estimated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that Choose...one in two one in three one in four one in ten Americans will be involved in an alcohol-related automobile accident sometime during their lives. Among all automobile accidents, Choose...drinking using cell phones lighting a cigarette speeding is usually the major factor. Pedestrians also are at risk of injury and death from automobiles.
